Kazu was one of the most influential people I have met in my life. Needless to say he was a great artist and teacher, but he was also a very nice person. I most remember his determined mind and keen eyes for art, as well as his cute smile, warm heart, thoughtful mind, and modesty. I was lucky to have taken his classes and worked as his teacher assistant for several semesters. He taught me so much about art, both technique and mindset, and about life as an artist. Every conversation we had is special to me. It is very sad to accept his lost, however my memory with him and his words will live in my heart forever.
For this painting, I wanted to depict his smile and the character that I will miss the most. I hope he is looking down on us with a smile from the galaxy.
